Muskegon Weather Summary - february, 2000

The rare 29 day month of February was an extremely warm one in Muskegon MI home of Sailing Daily. For the month temperatures were 8.2° warmer than normal. There were only 7 days with below normal temperatures and none from the 20th on.

The last 9 days of the month saw a powerful stretch of warmth. Rarely was the temperature below freezing, there was no sown and only scant rain. During this month end streak the temperature was as high as 66° on Saturday the 26th. The 26th was also the windiest day of the month with an average wind speed of 19.4 well above the 10.7 average wind speed.

Early in February there were some cold temperatures with the low for the month (5°) occurring on Wednesday the 2nd.

The wind direction tilted heavily towards prevailing southerly winds. Even the rare east wind produced high temperatures. Some of the northerly winds did bring some cold air and produce below norm temperatures.

With warm temperatures and only 1.1" of rain and 12 inches of snow February was not favorable to the lake levels.

Following the warm February, March has entered with more nice weather. Perhaps March will live up to the cliche and give us some lion like winter weather.
