Muskegon Weather Summary - september, 1999

Muskegon MI on the east shore of Lake Michigan is home port of Sailing Daily. We have just been through a month of weather that is in line with historical norms.

The average temperature was 61.5 degrees. The high temperature came 5 September at 91 degrees. As luck would have it this hot air caused the Governor's Cup regatta to be a festival of light air. Our low temperature came on Wednesday the 22nd. 36 degrees was the low coming on the 2nd official day of fall.

Wind wise we averaged 7.9 knots. Both the Governors Cup and the Anchorage Cup had below average wind. For the 2 days of the Governors Cup average wind was 5.9 and 6.2. On the 11th the Anchorage Cup saw an average wind reading of 4.3 knots. Best day on average for wind was this past Sunday the 26th. The average was 14 with a peak gust of 34. The Muskegon Yacht club fleet sailing in the fall series saw several spectacular spinnaker roundups due to this heavy air.

Finally, September is usually the wettest month of the year in Muskegon. This year was an exception as only 2.57 inches of precipitation fell. In fact the first 7 days of the month saw 0 precipitation.
