Match Racing: Bermuda Gold Cup

The quarterfinals will be sailed today most likely without Russell Coutts.  He paid a visit to a hospital and was eventually diagnosed with torn chest muscles.  He sustained the injury in Wednesday's heavy air conditions.  It is not clear whether his team will sail without him.

The quarterfinal pairings are as follows:

Peter Gilmour vs. Ed Baird
Russell Coutts vs. Magnus Holmberg
Chris Dickson vs. Murray Jones
James Spithill vs. Peter Holmberg

One of the interesting aspects of this regatta is the crew alignment.  With a heavy dose of America's Cup the crew lists tell who is sailing for which group.

Coutts has his typical trio of Butterworth, Fluery and Daubney.  On the other Swiss Challenge crew skippered by Murray Jones is Marco Constant a winning Whitbread sailor.  Peter Gilmour has 2 Japanese sailors and recent Olympic medallist Charlie Mckee who is from Seattle home of the One World Challenge.  Ed Baird has a different crew with young sailors Andrew Herlihy,
Andrew Buttner and
Mark Mendleblatt sailing with him.  Finally ex Young America trimmer Stu Argo is sailing with Chris Dickson of the Oracle Racing team.

The weekend will see the Gold Cup conclude.  Read Sailing Daily on Monday for a full recap.
