 Today's Sailing News 

October 2000: Dry month for Great Lakes

In October all portions of the Great Lakes Basin received below average precipitation.  Despite this the net supply of water to Lake Erie was above average in October. For all other Great Lakes it was below average.

Lakes Michigan-Huron, St. Clair and Erie were from 2 to 20 inches below average.  Lake Ontario's level was average.

 

Times Clipper Update

Leader: Plymouth Clipper by 52 miles.

Location: 19 North, 64 west, over 1000 miles to Cuba.

Best 24 hour run: Plymouth Clipper 198 miles

Current Conditions: East Winds

Forecast: Switching NE and increasing

Leader: LG Flatron arrived at the Buenos Aries Finish at 0913 eastern this morning.

Location: Next boat is Spirit of Hong Kong 99 miles out, entire fleet expected by tonite.

Best 24 hour run: Data Missing

Current Conditions: NW Force 4

Forecast: Wind dropping at nite

October 2000: Warm for the US

For the US October was the 25th warmest month on record.  National average temperature was 55.8.

Michigan was above normal in temperature.  It was the 87th warmest of the 106 Octobers on record.

While the temperature was above norm, the precipitation was below norm.  It was 20th driest October on record.

Combining all the weather figures in today's column and we should all stay prepared for below normal water levels.
