Vendee Globe:  At age 40 Parlier Leads

Here are excerpts from today's report on the Vendee Globe a solo, non stop around the world race.

"A screaming fast starboard tack (Raphael Dinelli: "Now, I am in a squall and hitting 15-17 knots.") passage down the coast of Morocco.  Soon the Canary Islands. ....

62 more miles back is Eric Durmont's Euroka.  This boat won the Vendee Globe in 1992 as Bagages Superior sailed by Alain Gautier as a ketch. "

Yves Parlier Aquitaine Innovations ""Itís my Birthday today - 40 years old! I have had loads of presents but still havenít got round to opening any yet."

"The new generation boats have gone to the front as expected.  Time will tell if any of the older 60's, or any of the 50's can stay in contention."

BT Challenge Update

Leader: LG Flatron by 101 miles.

Best 24 hour run: Logica  211 miles

Current Conditions: SW Force 4

Team Adventure: Mast Up

In Cherbourg France Team Adventures very large multi hull was launched.  The catamaran touched the water at 1220.  With light winds the boats 120 foot wing mast was then stepped.

After rigging the boat and bending on the sails look for Team Adventure's maiden voyage on Wednesday or Thursday.

The rest of the week in Cherbourg is expected to be rainy with max temperatures in the 40's.  Today in Cherbourg the wind is under 10 knots from the WSW.  Such gentle conditions will be ideal for Team Adventure's first sail.  Weather forecasts do show an increase up to around 20 knots, so the first sail maybe delayed.
