Prior to the Port Huron to Mackinac check porthuronmackinac.com for reports before, during and after the race. Beginning the week of the 17th check www.chicagomackinac.com for reports on the Chicago Mac.
Tour Voile 2000The 2000 Tour Voile has a lead boat with a developing standard of consistency. Barlo Plastics won the 107 mile offshore race from Cherbourg to Treburden. Finishing at 0531 after starting at 1500 the previous afternoon Barlo Plastics benefited from carrying 2 navigators. 2nd was : Région Ile de France with Ville de GenèveCarrefour Prévention 3rd. Perhaps the key tactical call of the race was whether to sail between the islands of Guernsey and Jersey or to leave both to port. The top three boats sailed through the islands. In hindsight this shows the correct call. Today will be a day off
for the 34 boat fleet. All crews are sailing Mumm 30's. While
the crews rest, shore side activities will be held for spectators. Swedish Match Cup: Semi Finalists SetAfter a round robin of 11 matches, the Swedish Match Cup has reached the semi final stage. Sailors from four different countries are through. Leading the semi finalists is Team New Zealand's Dean Barker with 10 wins and just 1 loss. Frenchman Bertrand Pace and Swede Magnus Holmberg are at 8-3 while Dane Sten Mohr took the last spot at 7-4. Looking in is defending champion Peter Gilmour who lost a tie breaker to Sten Mohr. As the round robin winner Barker gets to chose his semi final opponent. Barker chose Holmberg. After a 3-0 final day, Barker was able to take the first semi final race from Holmberg who was 3-1 on the round robin's final day. This left Sten Mohr (2-1 on Friday) to race Bertrand Pace (3-0 on Friday) in the other semi final. Pace continued his roll winning the first semi final match. So, after the first of the semi final matches it looks like Barker and Pace could match off for the points lead of the Swedish Match tour.
