 Today's Sailing News 

The Race:  26 days to the start

Team Philips continues sea trials in the north latitudes.  Current postion is 150 miles NW of the Outer Heberdies which are to the North of England.

The nite was quiet with only 5 to 10 knots of wind.  That will change today.

East winds of up to gale force are expected.  These will be opposed by a SW running sea.  Added will be cold rain and possibly sleet.

Not fun, but testing condtions for the maxi maran.

The other Race entrant from Britain, Team Legato has announced crewmember.

Farr 40 Admirals Cup Trials

Finishing the first phase of the trials with an offshore race off Miami Florida the winner had to be determined by tie breaker.

Only 5 boats started the offshore race.  At the race's mid point, Pegasus trailed.  They jibed offshore and sailed into more wind.  This benefited Pegasus in a big way.  Crossing the line @ 0321 Monday after a 1000 Sunday start Pegasus was the winner.  2nd was Barking Mad, 3rd Raging Bull, 4th Twister and 5th Total Eclipse.  Just 12 minutes seperated the 5 boats.

This left Pegasus and Barking mad with 11 point each.  The tie was broken in favor of Pegasus on the following basis: Each of Barking Mad's wins were wieghted 0.5 each, Pegasus' win in the long distance race was weighted 2.0. Because the long distance race was weighted more, Pegasus is declared the winner.

The Admrials Cup berth will be settled with a second phase of trails at Key West Race Week in January.
