Two new Posey Simulators
Beginning tomorrow Chicago Yacht Club will play host to
the offshore portion of the annual Verve Cup. Boat will race
in 17 different sections. 8 of those sections will feature one
Headlining the one design fleets will be the 18 boat
35 and Mumm 30 fleets. For the One Design 35 the Verve
Cup serves as a leg of their national championship series. The
series consists of 6 regattas ranging from Key West Race Week
to the San Francisco Big Boat series. Boats are scored on the
best 3 of the 6 regattas. For many of the Great Lakes based
boats the Verve Cup and the upcoming National Championships
will make up 2/3rds of the their national championship score.
3 of the top 5 One Design 35's will be at the Verve Cup
series leader Roxanne, Northern Bear the 3rd place boat and
Heartbreaker the 5th place 35.
The Mumm 30 fleet will also have 17 boats on the line.
Verve Cup is also part of the Mumm 30 national circuit. Leader
in the Mumm 30 points USA 48 will race the Verve Cup along
with the 5th place boat Bold 2.
The 11 boat Farr 40 fleet will decide the Great Lakes
Going into the regatta Voodo leads with 24 points. The next 3
places are in a tight pack, leader being Bandit 33 points, Hot Lips
(35) and Program (36).
Other one design classes at the Verve Cup will be:
70's, J 105, J35, J30, Beneteau 42 and Tartan 10's.
Fastnet Follow Up
The overall winner of the 1999 Fastnet is Whirlpool
Europe 2 the
Lombard designed Open 60. Skipper was Catherine Chabaud
who sailed with a crew of 5. 2nd overall was the Reichel Pugh ILC
Maxi Alexia, followed by Boomerang another ILC maxi which took
the final overall podium spot.

and Mark Reynolds each have 10 points. Doyle has won 3 of 5 races,
while Reynolds has 1 bullet. 3rd is Bermuda's Peter Bromby with
16 points. Next is Annapolis sailor Doug Schoffield who has won
a race. In 5th is Cooper River sailor John Macausland.
Should Reynolds win it will be his 2nd NA title, but if
Doyle wins out
it will be his initial NA title.
