Figaro Leg 2 to Spain

The 58 boat fleet that started Leg 2 of the Figaro Solo race has
been reduced to 52 boats.  Reasons for dropping out include
dismasting and engine failure.

Currently the fleet is 238 miles north of Cape Finistere which
is located in northern Spain.  The one design Beneteau built
Figaro's are sailing at 6 knots and up.

Leader is  Eric DROUGLAZET, followed by leg 1 winner Jean Le
Cam .2 miles back.  2.3 miles from the lead is Gildas Morvan followed
by Irish sailor Damian Foxall sailing Barlo Plastics.  Foxall has Barlo
Plastics only 2.4 miles from the lead.  Currently Foxall shows a speed of
7.8 knots faster than the boats ahead of him.  So far Foxall's prediction
that he prefers the current conditions is holding true.

You can learn more about Damian Foxall at the Barlo Plastics Website.

Fastnet Race

After yesterday's news of a new outright race record by Fujicolor
further finishes have been few.

The 60 foot trimaran's Banque Populaire edged fellow trimaran
Kingfisher by 7 minutes for 3rd in the Large Multihull class.

First monohull to finish was the Adeco Maxi One Design Ross Field
Yachting.  Field's 80 footer was 15 hour behind Peyron and Fujicolour.
First amongst the races 2 Volvo Ocean Race 60's was Ilbruck.  The
ILC 70 class saw James Dolan's Sagamore finish 1st.  A duel
between Open 60's was one by Whirlpool which edged Mike Golding's
Group 4.
