 Verve Cup Preview

Off the tall skyline of Chicago is the setting for the annual Verve Cup Regatta.  Chicago Yacht Club hosts 3 days of around the buoys racing on Lake Michigan.

Many of the entered boats will race on a one design basis.

The largest class will be the T-10's with 26 entries.  Defending champion 'US' is entered.

The J-105's and the Mumm 30's have 15 entries.  Lucky Dubie will defend her '99 J 105 title, while USA 48 will be back to try and again win the Mumm 30 class.

The 15 boat Farr 40 class will sail the final event of their 2000 Great Lakes series.  Voodoo with 26 points leads Milwaukee Grand Prix winner Defiant by 11 points.  3rd is Hot Lips with 56.  If Defiant can again be the regatta winner, they could take the season series from Voodoo.

10 Great Lakes 70's will sail in what is also this classes last event of the year.  Mongoose leads Pied Piper by 2 points, with Mirage 4 more points back and then Equation.

Earlier this season in Chicago Equation and Pied Piper had the best showing at the Chicago Noods.  The Great Lakes 70's season series could go to the last Verve Cup race.

All 6 of the new to the lakes Sydney 38's are expected to be on the line.

Forecasts for the racing area on Friday call for North winds of 10 to 20 knots.
