Accomplishments as Instructor: Founded the Torresen Sailing school in 1989. After retiring he started sailing schools for the Florida area Hunter dealer- Jopie Helsen at Sailors Wharf, and the Florida area Catalina dealer, Massey Yachts-Sunsail Tampa Bay.





Prior Career:College professor. Retired from Grand Valley State University in Allendale Michigan after 24 years, as chairperson of the Political Science Dept.

Qualified to teach the following ASA Classes:

* 101 Basic Keelboat

* 103 Basic Coastal Cruising

* 104 Intermediate Coastal Cruising

* 105 Coastal Navigation

* 106 Advanced Coastal Cruising

* ASA Evaluator - Certifies experienced sailors as ASA instructors

Sailing Experience: Started sailing in 1973. Owned seven sailboats ranging in size from 16 ft. to 32 ft. Racing, cruising, and day sailing experienced. Crossed Lake Michigan over 24 times racing, cruising, and delivering. Cruised to and through the North Channel six times, with 5 1/2 weeks being the longest trip. Erie Canal experienced. Licensed Captain since 2002.





Teaching experience: Conducted Muskegon Yacht Club sailing classes for over 10 years. Received ASA Certification in 2003. Teaching with Torresen Marine Sailing School since 2003.


Prior Career: 35 years in bank trust department followed by work as a financial consultant before retiring in 2000.
