MUSKEGON YACHT CLUB – MUSKEGON, MI – JULY 15-16, 2000

 

SAILING INSTRUCTIONS

1 – RULES

The Regatta will be governed by the Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS), the prescriptions of the United States Sailing Association (USSailing), the Class Rules of the JY15 class, except as any of these are changed by these sailing instructions, and by these Sailing Instructions.

2 – ENTRY

Only JY15 Class boats as defined by the JY15 Class may enter. Each boat must complete registration and pay all fees with the regatta organizing authority before becoming an official competitor.

3 – NOTICES TO COMPETITORS

Will be posted on the Official Regatta Notice Board located in the foyer of the Muskegon

Yacht Club (MYC).

4 – CHANGES IN SAILING INSTRUCTIONS

Any change to the sailing instructions will be posted before 0930 hours on the day it will take effect.

5 – SIGNALS MADE ASHORE

5.1 – Signals made ashore will be displayed on the official flagstaff located in the yard of the MYC.

5.2 – Flag AP with two horns (one horn when lowered) means ‘The race is postponed. The warning signal will be made not less than 30 minutes after AP is lowered.’

7 – THE COURSE

All courses will be WINDWARD/LEEWARD consisting of four (4) legs.

8 – MARKS

Marks can be Orange Tetrahedrons, Yellow Tetrahedrons, and MYC Orange Racing Marks

9 – THE START

9.1 – Races will be started using RRS 26, System 2.

9.2 – The starting line will be between a staff displaying an orange flag on the RC signal boat at the starboard end and the course side of the port end starting mark.

10 – RECALLS

Individual recalls will be signaled in accordance with RRC 29.2. The following shall not be grounds for redress:

Failure of a boat to receive the recall

Failure of the Race Committee to hail recall numbers

A boat’s position in the sequence of recall numbers.

11 – CHANGES OF COURSE AFTER THE START

A change of course after the start will be signaled before the leading boat has begun the leg, although the new mark may not then be in position. Any mark to be rounded after rounding the new mark may be relocated to maintain the original course configuration. When in a subsequent change of course a new mark is replaced, it will be replaced with an original mark.

12 – THE FINISH

The finishing line will be between a staff displaying an orange flag on a RC boat and the course side of the nearest Mark of the course.

13 – SAFETY

A boat that retires from a race prior to finishing shall notify the RC when leaving the course area or the Race Office immediately after arriving ashore. It is recommended that USCG type III personal floatation device be worn while racing.

14 – SCORING

The Low Point Scoring System, rule A2, will apply, modified so that each boat’s score will be the total of her race scores. Eight (8) races are scheduled, of which one (1) race shall be completed to constitute a series. If six (6) races or more are completed, an individual’s completed best number of races minus one (1) shall be counted (one throw out).

15 – 720 TURNS PENALTY

A boat that may have broken a rule of part 2 while racing may take a penalty at the time of the incident – 720 degree turns.

16 – PRIZES

Will be awarded to the top five-(5) boats.
