Unlike their Leg 3 victory, which saw them in the lead for a
long time, on Leg 5 they gained the lead under 12 hours from
the line.

illbruck still leads by 8 points.
Finishing 3rd this leg was Tyco just under 15 minutes from

Theme: Cleaning Products
Available on line at:
http://www.torresen.com/news/atwos/2002/ma/0327/ms.htm
This weeks theme topic is cleaning products This week we
look at some products that can help your boat shine before
or after launching.
Once your boat is laid up it is not often that it receives
any attention in the cleaning department. So, for many
owners, the first project of spring is to get the boat
looking it's best.
You may want to start by cleaning your hull and applying a
wax to the topsides. This is often down with the boat on
dry land. It can also be done from a dinghy.
Torresen Marine's most popular wax is Boat Armor Carnuba
Paste Boat Wax. Clean the hull and remove dust and grit.
Take a damp cloth and apply wax. Then wipe down with a
clean dry cloth. This will put the shine back on your hull.
Additionally the wax contains a UV inhibitor. This will stop
sun ray based decay. Boat Armor is $ 11.78 per can.
However, if you have invested in an Awlgrip finish for you
hull you should utilize a different product. You should
begin by washing the hull down with AWLWASH which is a
cleaning concentrate mixed with water.
Once you have finished this you move onto AWLCARE. This
protects the hull and removes minor stains such as soot.
Each of these products is $ 14.95. A small amount to pay to
protect your paint job.
Perhaps your boat has a crust of dirt around the water line
or transom. If so get yourself some Zing. Mix with water and
apply to get rid of this form of dirt. Use carefully as Zing
is a strong acid. Zing is $ 8.60 per bottle.
One of the most common spring tasks is giving your decks a
thorough scrubbing. For that purpose we offer Simple Green.
Simple Green is non-toxic and biodegradable. It has
purposes beyond your decks including laundry and your
galley area. $ 6.69 for a bottle of this versatile cleaner.
The second component to deck scrubbing is a good brush.
Torresen Marine offers a full line of Shurhold brushes and
handles.
For non-skid areas such as decks the Shurhold 960 ($ 26.38)
a 6" soft brush with yellow polystyrene bristles or the 980
($34.80) a 10" soft brush are recommended.
To make the scrubbing a bit more easy add a telescoping
handle. The 833 a 6' telescoping handle is $ 26.98, while
the 855 @ 9' is $ 34.98.
Our final product is one you may want to wait to use after
launching. Nothing can ruin a sail faster than a foul odor
from the bilge. To clean your bilge, pick up some Boat
Armor bilge cleaner. Pour the cleaner in the bilge. Then
take a sail. The natural motion of the boat distributes the
cleaner. If your bilge has no oil or fuel residue simply
pump your bilge and your cleaning is done. $ 7.98 for a
bottle of this cleaner.
Besides the products above Torresen Marine has a full aisle
of other cleaning products along with towels, brushes and
more.
Next week we'll begin April's theme topic:

Event News: Jules Verne Trophy
Available on line at:
http://www.torresen.com/news/atwos/2002/ma/0327/ms.htm
Last week's report on Orange's Jules Verne attempt with a
crewman quoted saying, "it's pure joy." Not lately for the
boat and crew.
On Friday and Saturday the Race class cat was reduced to
bare poles. Still with her wing mast providing power Orange
surfed at 20 knots.
Winds up to 65 knots were recorded. Skipper Bruno Peyron
described the maelstrom: "When you start surfing at 33/34
knots, when there are gusts of up more than 60 knots, when
the waves more than 10 meters high and no more than 150
meters apart... and you add to that a confused sea which
hits you broadside on... it's time to take your foot off the
accelerator !" At that point Peyron took the 110 footer put
her head to wind and waited things out.
By Tuesday they had rehoisted a triple reefed main and storm
jib. The current task is to get the boat into a more
favorable and speedy weather pattern.
Currently Orange sails to the north of the Kerugelen Islands
looking for more benign conditions.

News: Steinlager/Line 7 Match Racing
Available on line at:
http://www.torresen.com/news/atwos/2002/ma/0327/ms.htm
This event of the Swedish Match tour featured one of the
toughest fields ever with heavy representation from
America's Cup teams. Unlike the last two years Team New
Zealand was not impressive on home waters. And in the end
one of the non America's Cup skippers almost took 1st!
The round robin phase of the even ended Saturday. 8
skippers moved to the quarterfinals with 2 including both
reps from Great Britain Challenge eliminated.
The racing then evolved to 4 best of 3 quarterfinal series.
Winners were Rod Davis, Peter Holmberg, Jes Gram Hansen and
Palo Cian.
In the semi finals Peter Holmberg of Oracle Racing nipped
Prada's Rod Davis 2-1, while non America's Cup sailor Jes
Gram Hansen shut out Paolo Ciann 2-0.
However, the regatta was not able to be decided on the water
due to lack of wind. Tie breaking rules then gave the
regatta win to Peter Holmberg. Jes Gram Hansen who is
looking for funding to continue his campaign with his prize
money and hopeful that there are more future successes for
him.
The victory moved Peter Holmberg into 1st place on the
Swedish Match tour over Magnus Holmberg. 3rd is Gavin Brady
with Gram-Hansen 4th.
Next event on the tour is the Congressional Cup 7-13 April
off Long Beach where Peter Holmberg is the defending
champion.
