Short Tack: Safety Seminar
http://www.torresen.com/news/atwos/2002/ma/0320/st.htm

This Saturday at the Muskegon Yacht Club Senior Chief Tom
Rau, Group Grand Haven, U.S. Coast Guard will present the
Torresen Marine Safety seminar.

Chief Rau is the author of the popular Boat Smart Column
carried in ATWOS. His topic will be the dangers of boating
on Lake Michigan and how to handle them in a safe manner.
He will draw on experiences in a 21 year Coast Guard career.
Rau has served at many stations along Western Michigan,
including Stations Manistee, Ludington, Muskegon, Grand
Haven, Group Grand Haven, and St. Joseph and is intimately
familiar with Lake Michigan.

In 2001 Chief Rau received the JOC Alex Haley Award for
outstanding achievement in public affairs. Later this year
ATWOS will once again bring you Rau's Boat Smart column.

Short Tack: NaviLed
Available on line at:

Running lights of various colors and powers are required on
most boats. Hella Marine is upping the technology ante in
this category with their NaviLed's.

The lights use Light Emitting Diodes rather than
conventional light bulbs. Their service life is 50,000
hours which is the equivalent of 17 years spent at sea at
night, or about 100 bulb changes in conventional lights.
Additionally they save on power consumption allowing
electricity to go to other power hungry applications.
