Tim Kent skipper of the Open 50 Everest Horizontal has quit
his job! No not his job as skipper. Rather Tim has
resigned from his real job to spend 2002 getting ready for
the September start of Around Alone.
The next big task for Tim as sailor is to sail Everest
Horizontal from Newport Rhode Island to Charleston South
Carolina. He'll then undertake a 2000-mile qualifying
voyage.
Perhaps more important is the projects need for funds for
items like sails, electronics etc. It's true that the
hardest part of an Around Alone campaign is reaching the
starting line. Those wishing to help Tim along can make a
tax deductible donation. Additionally he and his team
continue to seek corporate sponsorship.

Short Tack: Rolling Bail
Available on line at:
http://www.torresen.com/news/atwos/2002/fe/0220/st.htm
Here's a new product that's simple and easy on the ears.
Many a sailor has been serenaded by the metal on metal sound
of a mainsheet or vang block on a metal bail.
Rolling Bail provides a bail and a roller that slips over
the shackle pin. Away goes that noise which can be
especially burdensome when you are slatting in light air!
