Short Tack: New Record For Playstation
Steve Fossett's 125-foot Race Class catamaran has set a new sailing
speed record from Miami Florida to New York. It took Fossett and 12
crew 2 days 5 hours 55 minutes and 8 seconds. This is 16 hours and
55 minutes faster than the previous record held by Explorer skippered
by Bruno Peyron and Cam Lewis. Playstation covered 505 miles on day 1
and 503 miles on day 2.
It is Fossett's 14th sailing record. Playstation will now start
preparations for a try at the West to East Trans Atlantic record.

The Energy Challenge is a unique contest for teams of college
students. The teams must construct the best possible sail from 100
pounds of Wood Chips. The non woven sails were to be designed
exclusively from paper products, including wood fiber, synthetic
polymers and commonly used paper products.
The best sail is judged in a variety of ways: a timed race,
written reports, weights, tear resistance and novelty of design. A
team from the State University of New York, College of Environmental
Science and Forestry (SUNY ESF) won the $ 15,000 first prize and also
won the race.
The driving force of the Energy Challenge is to increase
interest in science and engineering and promote awareness of energy
efficiency, manufacturing design, recycling, waste minimization,
package maximizing and pulp and paper industrial processes.
