Short Tack:2001 Sailing Plans
Available on line at:
http://www.torresen.com/sd/0321_st.htm
This past weekend was Torresen Marine's annual Spring Thaw.
Sailors began their emergence from a winter spent on land. As I
circulated the sales floor several sailors shared plans with me.
One gentlemen spoke of possibly trailering his 23-foot cruiser
north and doing some cruising on Lake Superior.
Another was going to cruise his own boat. However, that would
not be enough and he planned to serve as racing crew on a friends boat.
One sailing couple had begun to contemplate retirement and
more time for sailing. We spoke of potential destinations.
Others had boat improvement projects on their mind. Projects
mentioned included: a new stuffing box, a new cockpit table and new
running rigging.
Seems that there are as many plans and projects as there are
boats and sailors!
Short Tack: Harken Travelers
Available on line at:
http://www.torresen.com/sd/0321_st.htm
Harken Yacht Equipment recently introduced a pair of new
traveler systems for mainsails. The new systems are the CRX roller
traveler for big boats and Micro CB for dinghies and daysailors.
Both new travelers feature captive bearings. Another feature
that shows how technology has progressed is their weight.
Harken part # 2701, one of the new micro traveler cars, weighs
57 grams/20 ounces. A comparable recirculating ball bearing car # 158
weights 128 gram/4.5 ounces. Better yet the lighter car with captive
bearings is a little less expensive.
The new roller traveler weighs 24 ounces/680 grams. A
comparable recirculating car 35 ounces/992 grams.
If you want to take some of the strain and effort out your
mainsheet system the contact Torresen Marine about one of the new
Harken mainsheet travelers.
Short Tack: Universal Atomic 4
Available on line at:
http://www.torresen.com/sd/0321_st.htm
The Universal Atomic 4 engine is the most popular sailboat
auxiliary engine ever made. Manufactured from 1948 until 1982, the
Atomic 4 was originally designed for use in the invasion of Japan
that never occurred. During that time over 40,000 Atomic 4's were
produced. Current estimates say that 13,000 to 20,000 of the engines
are still in service.
Torresen Marine is committed to assisting Atomic 4 owners
in keeping their engines in condition. Start by checking out our
Atomic 4 parts reference list at:
http://www.marinedieseldirect.com/universal/atomic4fmplist.htm.
This lists common parts such as thermostats, impellers, points and
condensers.
Beyond the parts on the list we stock many others. If we
don't stock them we can order them.
Finally, we offer rebuilt Atomic 4 starters. Rebuilt
Prestolite starters (part # 261126R) are $ 195.72 Rebuilt Delco
starters (part # 299096R) are $ 129.85.
In both cases the prices include your exchanging your old
starter core with us.
