US Olympic Sailing Chair Brenner to Stay Until 2012

Phoenix, Arizona – US SAILING, national governing body for the sport, has announced today that its Board of Directors has voted to extend the term of its Olympic Sailing Committee Chair Dean Brenner (Wallingford, Conn.) through 2012. US SAILING President Jim Capron (Annapolis, Md.) made the announcement today at the organization’s Annual Meeting in Phoenix, Ariz. (more…)

Present and Future Olympians Sail Optimist Championships

The 300 young Optimist sailors at the Volvo Musto Optimist End of Season Championships had a tricky two days on the water. This Championship is the last selection event of the year for the sailors, so it’s the final opportunity for them to shine.

East Coast Olympic Trial Updates – Day 4

Newport/Middletown, R.I. – Competitors at the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Team Trials – Sailing grappled today with shifty northeasterly winds. Sizeable shifts turned the water into a patchwork of oscillations that racers navigated carefully, like a minefield. But there were some who definitely chose to travel the right route.

Olympic & Paralympic Team Trials – West Coast Update

Southern California – Whether Qingdao’s notoriety for wimpy wind will ring true for the Olympic sailing next August, most of the competitors in America’s West Coast Trials got plenty of practice dealing with it Monday. The Finns’ day at Newport Beach was a complete loss, while everyone else except the 49ers at San Diego and the RS:X sailboards at Long Beach spent much of the afternoon twiddling their tillers before ample breeze arrived for fair contests.

Anna Tunnicliffe Wins Gold at Qingdo

Portsmouth, R.I. – Team USA’s Anna Tunnicliffe is riding high today after winning a gold medal in the Laser Radial class at The Good Luck Beijing – 2007 Qingdao International Regatta in Qingdao, China, the second test event before the 2008 Olympic Games. With a new gold charm circling her neck and arms outstretched in victory, Tunnicliffe basked on the top step of the podium in front of an American flag.

“The awards ceremony was an amazing experience,” said Tunnicliffe. “It really makes me want to come back and do it again next year at the Olympics.”
