Familiar Names Slated For U.S. Championship of Champions

Portsmouth, R.I. – When racing starts at the U.S. Championship of Champions this Thursday, October 18 at Mission Bay Yacht Club in San Diego, Calif., the starting line will be packed with familiar names from across the country’s one-design sailing community. This should be no surprise, the event – which wraps up on Saturday, October 20 – is known as one of the toughest one-design competitions since it brings together the country’s top 19 one-design sailors of all ages who have won major events in their respective one-design classes in the last year. The Championship, sponsored by Rolex Watch U.S.A. and Dry Creek Vineyard, is held in a different one-design boat every year in a different part of the country. (more…)

Rolex Miami OCR: Half the Classes Twice the Intensity

Miami, Fla. – Though it will have fewer classes for its 2008 edition, US SAILING’s Rolex Miami OCR again will fulfill an annual promise to supply world-class racing to sailors eyeing the next Olympic and Paralympic Games. The event, scheduled for its 19th running January 27 to February 2, will deliver elite level competition in four of the Olympic classes (Laser, Laser Radial, Star, and Yngling) and all three Paralympic classes (2.4mR, SKUD-18, and Sonar) chosen for the 2008 Games in Qingdao, China. Racing will be eliminated, however, for another seven of the Olympic classes (49er, 470 Men & Women, Finn, Neil Pryde RS:X Men & Women, and Tornado) due to near-direct conflicts with their world championships held overseas. Racing at U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Trials Starts Oct. 6

Portsmouth, R.I. — On October 6, the nation’s top Olympic and Paralympic hopefuls will sail to starting lines on the U.S. East and West coasts to compete in the one regatta that will have the most dramatic impact on their sailing careers so far in this quadrennium: the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Team Trials – Sailing.

Youth Development Sailing Team Applications Now Being Accepted

Portsmouth, R.I. – Applications for the 2008 US Elite Youth Development Sailing Team are now being accepted. Launched by US SAILING in January 2007, the Elite Youth Development Team was created for young athletes who have been identified as future Olympic prospects.

Dates Set for 2008 Youth World Qualifier Regatta

Portsmouth, R.I. – US SAILING’s 2008 Youth World Qualifier Regatta, a new multi-class event that will determine the sailors who will represent the U.S. at the 2008 Volvo Youth Sailing ISAF (International Sailing Federation) World Championship, will be hosted this January by the Alamitos Bay Yacht Club of Long Beach, California.
