America’s Cup Hall of Fame Induction Postponed

The Herreshoff Marine Museum and America’s Cup Hall of Fame are saddened to announce that internationally recognized filmmaker and documentarian John Biddle passed away on October 1. Mr. Biddle had been selected for induction into the America’s Cup Hall of Fame for his outstanding work in documenting the 12 Meter era of America’s Cup competition, and was scheduled to be inducted at a ceremony to be held October 23, in New York City.“Out of respect to John and his family, the Herreshoff Marine Museum and America’s Cup Hall of Fame will postpone the induction until a date to be determined in spring 2009,” said Halsey Herreshoff, President. “The rescheduled ceremony shall honor John and present a full program celebrating the America’s Cup tradition and incorporating a film presentation prepared by John specifically for his induction.“The museum Board of Trustees, the America’s Cup Selection Committee, induction premier sponsor Rolex Watch USA and all the event sponsors extend heartfelt condolences to John’s wife Amy and his entire family at this difficult time.”

US Sailing Symposium Celebrates Headliners and Legends

Portsmouth, Rhode Island – In a little over two months, US SAILING will celebrate the 25th anniversary of its successful National Sailing Programs Symposium (NSPS) in St. Petersburg, Fla. From January 9 to 13, 2008, sailing program organizers from across the country will have the opportunity to network with their counterparts and hear directly from such sailing experts as renowned sailing commentator and author Gary Jobson, America’s Cup helmsman for winning team Alinghi Ed Baird, one of the country’s top female offshore sailors Dawn Riley, and many more. In addition to sailing experts, several popular speakers from previous NSPS events are returning, including Dr. Jayne Greenberg who will talk about education and life skills and Meaghan Johnson who will host a seminar on managing a multi-generational workforce. The five-day event, presented by Vanguard Sailboats, will be held at the Hilton Bayfront Hotel in St. Petersburg, Fla. (more…)

New America’s Cup Class Rule Discussion Underway

America’s Cup designers from Alinghi and the five challengers attended the first design consultation meeting on Saturday 15 September at the AC Management offices in Valencia.
