Not on My Boat

While perusing Yachting Monthly I came across the heading ‘Three More Useless Things on Boats’. A reader wrote in to nominate a bicycle, sailing tender, and washing machine as three items useless on a boat.

To that list I’d add carpet, orange life jackets .

Carpet no matter the type gets wets, grows mold and is slippery. Varnish and non skid are what is meant to be used in the place of carpet!

By orange life jackets I mean the orange jobs that go over your head. While they will indeed keep you afloat should you happen to be wearing one, odds are you won’t be wearing one as they are clumsy, ugly etc.. A no worn life jacket is useless!

What would you add to this list of items that are useless on boats?
