Oracle at Cong. Cup

As far as match racing in American waters goes, it is this year’s pre-eminent event. From April 12 to 16, a top-flight international field will compete including a BMW ORACLE Racing team helmed by team CEO Chris Dickson.

In the Congressional Cup, Dickson, who won this match race event in 1990 and 1991, will be joined on board by BMW ORACLE Racing tactician American John Kostecki and teammates Craig Monk, Paul Westlake, Ross Halcrow, and Kazuhiko Sofuku.

“The Congressional Cup is a long-standing match race event that always offers a competitive field. As one of the first match race events on our schedule this year, it is a great beginning to our intense racing season in 2005,” said Dickson before leaving Valencia.

This year marks the 41st running of the regatta, with ten teams
participating. Amongst the competitive field of skippers will be past America’s Cup winners Russell Coutts and Dean Barker. Amongst the highlights at the Long Beach Yacht Club will also be the duel between the Dickson brothers: Chris Dickson is up against his younger brother, Scott, who has been starting for the Long Beach club for the past ten years.

The BMW ORACLE Racing team is currently in the Spanish coastal city of Valencia training for the 32nd America’s Cup in 2007.
