Superior Solo Update

Since the Singlehanded Division of the Lake Superior Yachting Association’s (LSYA) Trans Superior is a race within a race, the Great Lakes Singlehanded Society (GLSS) is still awaiting the posting of the Notice of Race and Entry Forms by the LSYA. When this is done the GLSS can then post the special NOR and related forms for the Singlehanded Division entrants. All entries in the Singlehanded Division must come through the GLSS and their Board of Directors must approve all entrants . It is expected that current members of the GLSS will be approved due to their previous completion of a Chicago to Mackinac or Port Huron to Mackinac Solo Challenge. Non GLSS skippers that are considering this race should check the GLSS website at www.solosailor.org to gain an insight into the sailing experience and documentation that will be required for entry. The Trans Superior Singlehanded Division requirements will align closely with the posted Chicago to Mackinac and Port Huron to Mackinac requirements. These events are scheduled for June 18, 2005.

Due to the Mac Solos and timing of GLSS Board meetings the entry deadline will be well before the actual race. Entries will have to be received by June 14th so be prepared to get in those forms when they are posted.

What will it be like to do a Solo Trans Superior? To our knowledge an actual event has never been held before but you may gain some insight by reading a story by a fully crewed participant in the 2003 race.

You will be notified when the web postings take place.

Please forward to any other skippers that may be interested in this unique challenge.
