Jacques Vincent-8th Time Around
French sailor Jacques Vincent is on another voyage. This time around the world for the 8th time!
He has 4 mono hull roundings: 1989-90 Whitbread on ‘The Card’, 1993-94,
Whitbread on ‘Tokio’ , 1997-98 Whitbread ‘Innovation Kavaerner’, 2001-2002 Volvo Ocean Race ‘Djuice Dragons’ and
3 big cat roundings 1993 Commodore Explorer, 2001 Team
Adventure, 2004 Cheyenne & in progress 2005 Doha 2006
Update March 4, 2005
Here’s how Paul Larsen (currently crewmates with Jacques on Doha 2006) sums up Jacques and his immense experience:
“And then there’s Jacques. He might as well leave a toothbrush down here. This will mark his eighth time around in a global circumnavigation and we think that that will rank him as the all time, No 1 repeat offender. It all started with ‘The Card in the 89 Whitbread then the first successful Jules Verne on Commodore Explorer in 93 followed by ‘Tokio’, Innovation Kavaerner, Team Adventure, Djuice Dragons, Cheyenne’s RTW record last year and in a couple of days…DOHA 2006 in the Oryx Quest. Grant Dalton has been around seven times.

It’s an itch he can’t scratch and at 42, the Peter Pan of sailing reckons he’s got a couple more left in him as well. (Note: Jacques himself only counts complete circumnavigations and in the Volvo/Whitbread this means being on every leg from go to whoa. There is debate onboard whether under this context, Olivier De Kersauson is the only person to have done more)”
