Sayonara fell an excruciating 2 minutes and 4 seconds short of the record. Owner Larry Ellison told the Chicago Tribune, “I don’t think we would have changed anything. But there must have been 100 places that we could have saved two minutes…….”.

Meanwhile Stars and Strips has been credited with an official elpased time of 19 hours and 50 minutes. Stars and Stripes will not receive the first to finish trophy. Fosset believes that since he was in a class of the race, and since it was officiallu timed he should have the record. More than likely the World Sailing Speed Record Council will recoginize the record.

More updates as information becomes avaliable.
