Bermuda Race open to IMS Club Certificate Holders

The Cruising Club of America (CCA), long a strong supporter of the IMS system as a method of handicapping racing yachts, has announced that for the first time they and the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club are encouraging yachts holding "Club" IMS certificates to enter the 1996 Newport to Bermuda Race.

The race Newport to Bermuda starts off Newport Rhode Island June 21, 1996.

The yachts must meet the same qualifications and safety standards as has been traditional for the race and will be given separate class status eligible for trophies specifically created for those racing under "Club" certificates.

Just under 1000 requests for Entry were mailed to all "Full" and "Club" certificate holders in mid September.

Any sailor who does not now hold an IMS certificate, but plans to get either a "Club" or a "Full" certificate between now and April 1, 1996 is encouraged to contact race headquarters for entry information.

The 1994 Newport to Bermuda Race drew 150 starters and the Race Committee is looking forward to 200 entries in 1966.
