Around Alone for November 18th
The on the water portion of the Around Alone
fleet is now 4 boats. 3 are Class II entries:
Shuten Dojhi II, South Carolina and Paladin 2.
One is a Class I entry: Modern University for
the Humanities.
Shuten Dojhi II leads this group. 'Shuten'
has 397 miles to cover to the finish. ETA is
still Saturday.
Following is South Carolina which is without
a rudder. Her distance to the finish is 477 miles.
South Carolina is expected to arrive in Cape Town
on Sunday.
When comparing this rudder loss to his
dismasting in the 1994 race Robin Davie of
South Carolina says: "a rudder loss is infinitely
worse and more difficult to handle than a
dismasting - and this rudder loss is certainly
proving to be the case."
The November 28th deadline looms for
Paladin 2 and Modern University for the Humanities.
If a yacht is not in Cape Town by November 28th,
she will not be allowed to race Leg 2 on
December 5th. Organizers feel you need more than
1 week to get ready for the Southern Ocean.
Paladin 2 a Class II 40 footer is 1258 miles
from the finish. The ETA is 29 November.
The farthest back yacht is the Class I
60 footer Modern University for the Humanities.
1443 miles from Cape Town with an ETA of 30 November,
MUH is up against it.
