Project Amazon is Canadian sailor Sebastian Reidl's entry into Around Alone. She is 60 foot cat ketch and will sail in Class I.

Sebastian Reidl
Reidl was born in Hungary and in 1964 he moved to Canada. He then became involved in a mineral exploration company. It had activities in Ecuador and Peru.
In Canada he became involved in sailing. It was also here that his philanthropic activities began. He was involved in the Rotary Club's student foreing exchange program.
Now Sebastian is fortunate to have time to put towards his dream- the Tropica 2000 mission. This is a non profit foundation that is committed to preserving the Andes and its peoples. To bring attention to this project Sebastian has entered the Around Alone race.
Tropica 2000 has as its major goal the preservation of the 2,000 square kilometer Amazonian forest enclosing the Saccha Llanganates which is the highest mountain range in Easter Ecuador. This area is home to the cloud forest which feed the rain forests.
As part of this undertaking there will be the Tropica 2000 Youth Challenge. This educational program will motivate school students to follow the race via the Internet and enroll them in actively raising the funds needed to realize Project Amazon's goals.
