George Stricker is a 62 year old American. Prior to taking on sailing full time, George was in the education marketing business. In 1995 George sold his company. Now he enjoys a part time business career and this year an attempt at sailing Around Alone.
Rapscallion 3 is a 1996 Schock 50 designed by Bruce Marek. It was formerly known as West Marine.
George has completed his qualifying voyage for Arond Alone. He took an unusual route for this voyage sailing from Trinidad to Halifax Nova Scotia.
George has an extensive sailing background. Included in this is 7 Newport to Bermuda 1-2 races. This race has a unique 1-2 format. From Newport to Berumda is the single handed or '1' portion of the race. From Bermuda to Newport the format is double handed, hence the '2'.
More recently he has completed 3 transatlantic races. In 1992 he sailed Rapscallion a 35' Marek in the Europe I Star Transatlantic Race. George spent the majority of the race hand steering. Less than 1,200 miles from the start of the race all four autoplilots stopped functioning. George calls hand steering, " a bore." In 1994 he again sailed Rapsacallion across the Atlantic. The course was from Plymouh England to Newport Rhode Island. He finished 2nd. In 1996 George stepped up to a Freres 45 named Rapscallion. He delivered the boat across the Atlantic and then again raced from Plymouth to Newport.
In 1997 George put in miles on Rapscallion (then known at West Marine). First he deliverd her from Hampton Virginia to Ft. Lauderdale. He then sailed the 811 mile Ft. Lauderdale to Montego Bay Jamacia race.
Geroge has Rapscallion in Charleston. Look for him on the starting line September 26th !
