Excerpt from the Torresen Sailing Site Interview with
Brad Van Liew

Torresen Sailing Site: What do you think the strengths of your boat are ?

cc.jpg (2619 bytes): My boat is special for many reasons. It was designed and built for this purpose and
has shown great potential in the last race, but it did have some shortcomings as well. The great aspect of the boat now is that it has been completely rebuilt to fix the shortcomings and maximize it's strengths. The boat has been equipped with a new carbon rudder, mast and bow sprit as well as a new interior configuration and has lost 1,000 lbs of displacement in the process.

Torresen Sailing Site: Since you indicate that you feel Legs 1 & 4 are key......what kind of research into the weather are you doing ? Will you employ a weather router such as Bob Rice etc. ?

cc.jpg (2619 bytes): Competitors in the Around Alone are not permitted to use outside wx briefers so I will
not be using a "Bob Rice" type. Legs 1 and 4 are in fact the most strategic and I have been reviewing past succesfull routes, given particular wx patterns as well as reviewing different software programs that are currently available that use boat polars as well as reported wx to recomend a given course.
