Around Alone Report May 11- Magellan Wins Class II

Mike Garside finished Leg 4 of the Around Alone race.   He crossed the finish line in Charleston SC @ 1140 eastern.  It took him 31 days 0 hours 40 minutes and 49 seconds to sail the leg which started in Punta Del Este.   His leg 4 average speed was 7.72.

Garside has now completed the 1998-99 Around Alone in 138 days 12 hours 10 minutes and 3 seconds.  When Cray Valley finishes tomorrow the class II standings will be final.  Cray Valley will be the Class II winner upon finishing.

Mike Garside gains a unique distinction in British sailing history.  He becomes the first British Sailor to win 1st place on an Around Alone Leg and finish the race.
