Wind of Change is 3rd for Leg 4

Last evening at 2111 Charleston time Viktor Yazykov sailed his 40 footer Wind of Change across the Around Alone finish line.  Wind of Change takes 3rd place in Class II for Leg 4 with a time of 37 days 10 hours 11 minutes and 44 seconds.  In addtion to his class placing for the 4th leg running Wind of Change was the first 40 footer to finish.

For the race Yazykov's time is: 168 days 10 hours 9 minutes and 44 seconds.  This includes an 11 day 7 hour penalty Yazykov incurred for a late arrival for the race start.

Fleet Round Up:

Balance Bar is 693 miles from the finish.  Sunday could be the day Balance Bar finishes.  Balance Bar is sailing at 5.5 knots.

www.no-barriers.com is 717 miles from Charleston.  Neal Petersen reports:  "Encountered an absolutely incredible rain squall this afternoon. It was a total white out. Rain fell as if the heaven's dams had burst. I got in a great shower, and the water was cool and refreshing."  Neal should be showering on land by Sunday.

Shuten Dojhi II shows in 5th place 946 miles from a finish which is estimated to occur a week from today.   

Paladin 2 is 1074 from the finish.   Neil's ETA is 26 May.

What does it all mean ?

At one time it looked as if Wind of Change would not make the race.  Viktor did make it and sailed a very credible race staying up with boats 10 feet larger.
