As we begin the last full week for the Around Alone fleet 5 will become 4 sometime after 1200 eastern. Wind of Change will become the first of the fleet's 3 40 footers to finish.
Fleet Round Up:
Wind of Change is 57 miles from the Charleston SC finish line. Light air means Viktor Yazykov is sailing at only 3.9 knots.
Balance Bar is 869 miles from the finish. Sunday could be the day Balance Bar finishes. Reported winds near Balance Bar north east by east at force 3.
www.no-barriers.com is 874 miles from Charleston. Neal Petersen reports: "Once today I passed Balance Bar." No Barriers finish day is estimated as Sunday.
Shuten Dojhi II shows in 5th place 1033 miles from a finish.
Paladin 2 is 1316 miles back moving at 5.6 knots. Neil Hunter reports: ". Right now we have 5 kts of breeze and it is really exciting - we are doing 5-6 kts of boat speed." Neil Hunter projects to finish Wednesday the 26th.
What does it all mean ?
If you divide the fleet into three groups based on length the only group with a 100% rate of finishing is the 40 footers. Wind Of Change, No Barriers and Paladin 2 all look to be finishers. Although not as fast or as glamorous these yachts will finish, which by Around Alone standards is an accomplishment of merit.
