Around Alone Report May 9

Somewhere to finish Class I's race

Please consult The Around Alone Report Users Guide for an explanation of this report.

By 1200 eastern Somewhere will finish.  This finish will make it official that only 2 of the Class I sailors finished.

Fleet Round Up:

Somewhere is 23 miles from the finish.

Magellan Alpha leads Class II by 224 miles.  MIke Garside is expected in Charleston on Tuesday.

Cray Valley is 2nd. Currently J.P. has a 2 knot speed advantage.  Although helpful this likely is not enough.

Next is the first of the 40 foot Class II entries, Wind of Change.  Wind of Change is 789 miles back.

Shuten Dojhi II shows in 4th place again.

www.no-barriers.com is back to 5th place. No Barriers is 1529 miles back sailing at 7 knots.

Paladin 2 is 1709 miles back.

Balance Bar is almost even with Paladin.  With a speed advantage Balance Bar could pass Paladin today.

What does it all mean ?

With Somewhere's finsih March Thiercelin will have finished his tune up for the Vendee Globe.  With the way Around Alone has gone with the reliability problems of the 60 footers one must like Thiercelin's chances with 27,000 miles of tuning under his keel.
