Around Alone Report February 25- Somewhere dismasted Fila again diverted

While in lead Somewhere dismasted

At 1233 GMT (0733 EST) race officials learned that Somewhere was in danger of losing communications capabilities.  This is due to a hole in Somewhere's deck caused by the dismasting.  The hole is right over Somewhere's nav station.

Thiercelin is having a difficult time patching the hole in the difficult conditions.  The conditions also prevent his erecting a jury rig.

Where next for Somewhere ?  Quite likely the Falkland Islands.  Somewhere is currently 180 miles northwest of Port Stanley in the Falklands.

For the 2nd time in Leg 3 Giovanni Soldini and Fila have been dispatched to the aid of a fellow competitor.  Soldini is 180 miles southwest of Somewhere.  One of the reasons Soldini has been diverted is the possibility that Somewhere may loose her communication capabilities.

Torresen Sailing Site will provide updates as the become available.
