Around Alone Report March 24

No Barriers to complete 3rd leg today

Please consult The Around Alone Report Users Guide for an explanation of this report.

Neal Petersen will finish today.  Upon reaching Punta Del Este Neal says,  "I will complete a four-year solo circumnavigation of the globe via the Southern Ocean capes. Four years ago, I sailed from Punta del Este, Uruguay to Charleston single-handed."  Neal made the Punta to Charleston voyage after dropping out of the 94-95 edition of Around Alone.

Fleet Round Up:

www.no-barriers.com is 55 miles from leg's end.   Current weather in Punta shows 6 knots of wind from the west south west.  At last report No Barriers was sailing at 4.7 knots.   Neal has opened all of No Barriers hatches to air her out, saying, "I'm sure there must be smells of dampness and whatever, though I have lived in these confined spaces for so long now, I cannot smell anything different."

Next is Shuten Dojhi II.   Shuten lies 373 miles  from the finish.  Shuten is sailing faster making about 100 miles a day and should finish this weekend.

Paladin 2 comes next 774 miles   from the finish.  Neil Hunter says, "Am now out of the furious fifties and back into the roaring forties and I have broken the 1,000 mikes to go barrier -- Just 903 left on the clock right at the moment - just a stroll in the park as one Top Gun pilot once said." Neil's stroll should be finished by months end.

What does it all mean ?

No Barriers will complete one circumnavigation   today and be in good position to sail Leg 4 and complete a 2nd circumnavigation.
