Around Alone Report March 10

Wind of Change will finish today

Please consult The Around Alone Report Users Guide for an explanation of this report.

Today will see another Class II finish.  Again, Viktor Yazykov will sail his 40 foot Wind of Change across the line in 4th place.

Fleet Round Up:

Closest to finishing is Wind of Change, 99 miles from the Leg 3 finishReported conditions in Wind of Changes area are South South East @ 10-12 knots.  This means that Wind of Change is finishing with some easy sailing, currently making 8.0 knots.

Somewhere is 795 miles from the finish.  Somewhere has made a 24 hour run of 81 miles.  At last report Somewhere was sailing at 5.8 knots meaning progress should get better.

Next is Shuten Dojhi II.   Shuten lies 1654 from the finish.  Shuten had a 24 hour run of 126 miles.

Next is www.no-barriers.com.  Neal Petersen is 1793miles from leg's end having completed a 125 mile 24 hour run. Neal states, "I am running with just a staysail set as its too rough for a mainsail. I would make better progress with a genoa, but the torn genoa is still on the Profurl Roller Furler." He is still considering whether to make a repair pit stop."  He will decide in the next 48 hours.

Paladin 2 comes next 2595 from the finish.  This gives Paladin a fleet best 212 miles in the last 24 hours.  Neil Hunter says, "Everything is holding together as we count down the miles."

South Carolina is on the way to Punta Del Este.  Robin Davie reports, "South Carolina slips along easily and feels good. The steering all feels much improved, and the rig itself feels much better set up than what it was leaving Capetown, so all in all our time in Auckland was well spent." South Carolina is not an official race entry anymore. Simply Robin is completing his third solo circumnavigation.

What does it all mean ?

Wind of Change will finish today, and we will post a report upon that occurrence.
