The fleet is now at sea for the 3rd day of Leg 1 from Charleston to Cape Town.
Still at the front of the fleet is Team Group 4 and Mike Golding. He is steering a course of 105 degrees, and is just south of the Island of Bermuda. There is a distance of 10 miles to the 2nd place yacht, Somewhere.
The Torresen Sailing Site sponsored Modern University for the Humaniteis is lying 5th in Class I. MUH skipper Fedor Konioukhov has MUH postioned as the farthest south boat in the fleet. It appears as though MUH may be experiencing light air, as her reported boat speed was only 4.8 knots
Class II sees pre race favorite Cray Valley at the front. 2nd is Magellan Alpha and 3rd is Balance Bar. These boats are close together with the current edge in boat speed to Magellan.
Weather wise the fleet has received forecasts that point to the best breeze being tho the north and east. With most of the fleet up around 30- to 30 degrees of latitde it seems as this is where wind is expected. It will be expected that boats like MUH and Magellan Alpah will lose distance.
Perhaps in the best postion is Fila. Soldini is the farthest north at 33 degrees and is making 12.8 knots, 3 to 4 knots faster than his fellow Finot 60's.
Please check back for daily updates on the progress of the fleet.
