At 1215 eastern the 1998-99 Around Alone Race started. The start occured after a 15 minute postponment. The fleet heades south trailed by a large spectator fleet. Most of the boats started under reefed mains and staysails rather than genoas.
From my point of view at the weather end of the line, Somewhere and Fila had the best of the action. Somewhere briefly led, but was soon passed by Fila. Before returning to shore I waved goodbye to the Torresen Sailing Site Sponsored Modern University for the Humanities. Look for pictures of the start in the coming week.
